Heh, tricky question, man Smile

From a completely subjective (and ignorant on this robotic matters) point of view, I\'d say a robot is alive when he can think on its own, I mean, when it\'ll be able to elaborate creative thinking, not directly based on preprogrammed functions or behaviours, leading to a distinctive personality.

If a robot comes and say \"hey, i like that movie\" or \"i disagree with that\", I\'ll start to pack my bag and move to another planet... erm... I mean that I\'ll start to think that robots are \"alive\" Smile

As Elven says, before that happens we better implement the three rules. Just in case. But that\'s not something to worry about for a long time.

BTW, another robot related news:

Robots will win the World Cup by 2050

Hmm... dunno, technologic stuff goes fast... but... *that* fast?

No, there\'s a certain set of guidelines set out as to when something is \"Alive.\" The ability to Think is not one of them.

But for the life of me, I can\'t recall what they are.

However, Viruses have all but 2 of the qualities (there are 5). So they technically, aren\'t alive. There\'s a push in the science community to get rid of these 2 qualities to make them be called alive.

I don\'t have my basic Biology book, but Meng on an off chance, might.

I think we\'d (human beings) better focus on getting our own \"shit\" straight before we try to create emulte our faulted beings through machines as well...

Don?t you think robots will be used for Sim-like reality-games in the future? I do. Anthropologists and girls love that shit; the former likes to observe, the latter to be in control ...

No, I think their purpose will serve military means first & foremost, as most technological advances.

we can send them into space to find us other worlds to capture

I think Soul just hit it right on the head.

Robots, as opposed to humans, don\'t have to be fed if we send them into space.

but if robots have feelings then why would they want to go into space?
(other than to get away from humans i mean.)

Well, I think we\'re going to have functioning Humanoid robots way before we ever get real feelings.
